Frequently Asked Questions about Shelter
How long can I stay at the shelter?
Generally, clients are allowed to remain at the shelter for up to 45 days if they are following guidelines and working with their case manager. Extensions may be granted by the case manager depending upon the woman’s individual circumstances.
What time is curfew?
Curfew is at 9:00 p.m. every night. Exceptions may be granted by the case manager for work, school, treatment needs, and/or other circumstances.
What services will I receive while in the shelter?
Services begin with shelter. From there, supportive services include case management, 3 meals per day, hygiene items, clothing, support groups and educational classes, transportation assistance, children’s services available Monday through Friday from 6a.m. to 8p.m., information and referral resources.
What about laundry?
Laundry facilities are available without cost to the client. When available, detergent will be provided to clients.
What about child care?
All mothers are responsible to be with their children at all times while in the facility unless the child is in child care. Child care is available without cost from 6a.m. to 8p.m. Monday through Friday. Arrangements for child care must be made 24 hours in advance through the case manager.
Does the shelter provide transportation?
At times, bus tickets are available for client use. They must request bus tickets 24 hours in advance with their case manager. Tickets will be provided (if available) for employment, housing, medical appointments, etc.
Can I make phone calls?
A free phone for local calls is available in the lobby from 8 a.m. to 4p.m. daily. The payphone is available daily from 6a.m. to 11p.m.
Can I receive phone calls?
Advocates can take messages for clients; however, they will not acknowledge to the caller whether or not the individual is a resident.
Can I leave the shelter overnight?
Clients may only be out of the shelter overnight if they are working, have a medical emergency, a death in family or are put in jail. Documentation will need to be provided in order to continue stay in the shelter.
Can I work while staying in the shelter?
Yes. Clients are encouraged to find employment and are not limited to certain work hours and schedules. Documentation will need to be provided to the case manager.
